Dear Overton County Schools Families and Staff,
Due to a countywide water emergency and a current boil water mandate, Overton County Schools will be closed on Thursday and Friday.
At this time, portions of Overton County are already without water, and officials have indicated that other areas may lose water as well while crews work to locate and repair leaks in the system. Because schools cannot safely operate without reliable access to potable water for drinking, food preparation, restrooms, and sanitation, this closure is necessary to ensure the health and safety of our students and staff.
What you need to know:
Water must be boiled for at least 3 minutes before use for drinking, cooking, or brushing teeth.
Potable water distribution sites are being established by emergency officials and will be announced through local media and the City of Livingston / 911 Facebook pages.
Potable water may be used for bathing and restrooms but still must be boiled for human consumption.
Residents are advised to turn off water heaters if water service is lost to prevent damage.
We understand the inconvenience this may cause for families, especially following recent weather-related closures. Please know this decision was made in close coordination with local officials and out of an abundance of caution.
We will continue to monitor the situation closely and communicate updates regarding school operations as more information becomes available.
Thank you for your understanding and continued support as we prioritize the safety of our school community.
Sincerely,
Kim Dillon
Director of Schools
Overton County Schools
